Nick Murchie is a superb craftsman who offers a friendly and personalised service. He created two beautiful items for our home. A set of traditional fitted wardrobes and a floating bookshelf, each designed to save space, maximise storage and match with other existing furniture. Both are a real feature in the room. Nick takes great care in planning and designing to make sure his work suits your need. Thoroughly recommended.

We moved into our house two years ago and Nick’s carpentry has contributed massively to making it our home. He transformed one slim victorian cupboard into a spacious linen cupboard, another into a fantastic wardrobe, he built beautiful wardrobes from scratch in our main bedroom, shelved my office, and created a wall of shelving in our sitting room that ingeniously incorporates furniture we already had. Everything looks as if it was meant to be there, it completely compliments the style of the house, and meets our practical needs. Nick is a perfectionist, a problem solver and a lovely easy person to have around. He listens to what you need, comes up with brilliant solutions and does what he says he’s going to do. I couldn’t recommend him more wholeheartedly.

Nick completely transformed our tiny and extremely outdated kitchen into a modern, efficient and miraculously more spacious room. He was always responsive to our ideas, but it was his ingenious solutions (beautifully realised with skilful carpentry) that have given this very difficult space a particular character that is very much 'us' and with which we are delighted. Our new kitchen is a joy to work in and we couldn't fault his expertise, creativity, sensitivity and downright hard work. Thank you, Nick!

We first asked Nick to build a solid wood, built-in bookcase, which we loved and was much admired by everyone who saw it. We liked that one so much, we then asked him to build another. Finally, Nick managed to transform our old, shoddy kitchen cabinets into what looked like a fabulous new bespoke kitchen by making new doors and installing a new oak worktop (and fitting a new sink while he was at it). The fact that we gave Nick repeat work speaks for itself, but what's more his prices compared favourably with ready-made items.

A truly bespoke carpenty service. Nick dealt perfectly with the complete lack of straight walls and surfaces in our 1930s house. Nick sketched up some great ideas for built in wardrobes in our attic and then turned those ideas into something both beautiful and functional

Nick built fitted wardrobes into the eaves of our loft room, so a difficult space. His design was ingenious, working with our individual needs to create a mix of wardrobe and drawer space that looks great and makes a brilliant use of the space. He worked quickly and quietly and was always a pleasure to have around. We are three years on now and the wardrobes still look and function as new. Highly recommended.

I hired Gemütlichkeit to fit alcove cupboards and shelves to either side of the fireplace in my front room. Nick did a beautiful job, patiently tailoring everything to my fussy requirements about the box files and various sizes of book that needed to be accommodated. He skilfully worked around gas pipes and electrical sockets, and left everything clean and tidy at the end of each working day. The end result both looks good and is very sturdy -- definitely an addition to the value of the house. Gemütlichkeit may not be the cheapest option for this type of work but you get what you pay for and I would not hesitate to recommend this firm.

Nick was wonderful. What makes him special, and really sets him apart, is the time he takes talking with you before he starts helping you design what you want and making sure he really understands the job. And he cares about it as he goes along and calls to keep you updated on any minor adjustment along the way. I really felt part of what he was doing and there was never any bullshit, or cleaning up after him. Would use him any time.

We have Nick's shelves in almost every room (even the cellar), and we get real pleasure from them. they're all unique, designed especially for the space and the style of the room. Nick has real imagination and flair - his first words in the morning are usually, 'I've had an idea' - and we never stop getting compliments for his work. the kitchen he designed and built for us is full of little imaginative touches that make it both beautiful an extremely practical. We didn't want to spend a fortune, so he used Ikea frames and added his own handmade doors, shelves etc. (even a bespoke draining board) - so it looks amazing but was really good value. Some of our favourite things: the shelf in the sitting room made just for Rod's Ordnance Survey map collection; the sweeping, stepped bookcase across a whole wall in the spare bedroom; and the compartments for CD players and speakers neatly fitted into spaces above and between kitchen cupboards. he's lovely to have around and he leaves everything so spotless!
